Houston
Hot Spots
Though Houston's two coolest ethnic restaurants serve foods from opposite sides
of the planet, both showcase innovative cuisines firmly anchored in tradition.
Indika is the brainchild of Indian-born Anita Jaisinghani, who turned to cooking
when she tired of her career in microbiology. Her seductive blend of American
ingredients and Indian spices - Gulf Coast seafood in a vibrant mulligatawny;
chile-spiked duck tandoori in toasted-almond curry - is a shining example of the
enlightened multiculturalism for which this city is famous.

NEIGHBORHOOD
GEMS — INDIKA, a tucked-away cottage in Memorial, is as chic and savvy as its
chef-owner, Anita Jaisinghani. She reimagines the dishes of her Sindhi
childhood, so that salmon tikkas get a rush of coconut chutney, roasted
new potatoes in mustard oil, and a contrapuntal watercress salad.
